Overview

Nurses lack education regarding the addiction process, how to identify those with addiction and how to implement effective interventions. It is important that nurses receive education about substance use disorders. Employers can have significant impact in improving the nurse’s knowledge and attitude toward substance abuse.

Learning Objectives

  • After taking this course you will:
    • Know how to identify signs of impairment in your workplace
    • Understand why nurses become impaired
    • Be able to discuss what addiction does to the person impaired
    • List steps in making a report
    • Discuss treatment options
    • Explain when you are mandated to report

Speakers

Eileen Ginsburg DNP, FNP-BC

Dr. Eileen Jenkins Ginsburg has been a Nurse Practitioner for 24 years. She graduated from Wilmington University’s NP program and then worked in an Internal Medicine office in Wilmington, Delaware for 8 years. After moving to Florida, 21 years ago, she began working as a rheumatology nurse practitioner. Dr. Ginsburg attained her DNP from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and started working as an adjunct assistant professor at FAU 13 years ago. Dr. Ginsburg lectured at multiple conferences and the AANP convention about the Necessity of Vitamin D. She has been active in both the county and state NP organizations and worked on the Clinical Conference committee for 19 years. She is extremely proud that she was presented with the Nurse Practitioner of the Year award in 2009 and again in 2015 from the Nurse Practitioner Council of Palm Beach County.
